The plate and frame heat exchanger is a new type of high efficiency heat exchanger which is composed of a series of corrugated metal sheets.A thin rectangular channel is formed between the plates, through which heat is exchanged.Plate heat exchanger is an ideal equipment for liquid - liquid, liquid - steam heat exchange.It has the advantages of high heat exchange efficiency, small heat loss, compact and light structure, small occupation area, convenient installation and cleaning, wide application and long service life.Under the same pressure loss, the heat transfer coefficient is 3-5 times higher than that of the tubular heat exchanger, the floor area is one-third of that of the tubular heat exchanger, and the heat recovery rate can be as high as 90%.

1. High heat transfer coefficient.Different corrugated plates are inverted with each other,so a complex flow path is formed,making the fluid rotates in three dimensions in the channel between the corrugated plates.It can generate turbulence at a low Reynolds number (generally Re=50~200), so the heat transfer coefficient is high.It is generally considered to be 3-5 times of the shell type.
2. Small floor area.The heat exchanger is compact in structure.It is unlike shell and tube type which needs reserving out of the bundle of maintenance site.Therefore, for the same heat exchange, the floor area of plate heat exchanger is about 1/5~1/8 of that of shell and tube heat exchanger.
3. Light weight
The thickness of plate heat exchanger is only 0.4-0.8mm, while that of shell and tube heat exchanger is 2.0-2.5mm.The shell of the shell type is much heavier than the frame of the plate type heat exchanger.
4. Small heat loss
Only the shell plate of the heat transfer plate of the plate heat exchanger is exposed to the atmosphere, so the heat loss can be ignored, and no insulation measures are needed.The heat loss of shell and tube heat exchanger is large, so heat insulation layer is needed.
5. Not easy to scale
Due to sufficient internal turbulence, it is not easy to scale.The scaling coefficient is only 1/3~1/10. M of shell and tube heat exchanger.Working pressure should not be too large, medium temperature should not be too high,it can cause the possible leakage.The plate heat exchanger is sealed with gasket,whose working pressure generally should not exceed 2.5mpa and medium temperature should be lower than 250 ℃ below or it might leak.
